The month of march has been insane.. I've battled with insomnia off & on for years, but recently I decided to embrace the disorder, and make the most I possibly can out of a 7 day work week.
Sleep is the cousin of death as Nas said.
This translates into days at the office in Philly, evenings in NYC, and so much activity I occasionally need to reference my camera to recall all of the previous days events..

Red Bull Music Academy Sub Session: A Day with Philly's Favorite Son--Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson.

If you are not familiar with Red Bull Music Academy, here's the short version:

Each year since 1999 Red Bull has executed international outreach to find the most promising applicants from around the world to engage in a two week intensive seminar on music production. Recent locations include Melbourne, Rome, Cape Town, Sao Paulo and Barcelona. Past lecturers / participants range from Bun B, Diplo and Chuck D to Sly and Robbie and Pete Rock.

Selected applicants will be fortunate enough to attend an all expense paid, 2 week trip to RBMA in London in 2010!

On March 14, Red Bull will host the first in a series of events in 2009 to find Philadelphia's most promising musical talents from musicians, songwriters and MC's to vocalists, DJs and general music enthusiasts.

This is a one day, invite only, lecture with Philly's favorite son and internationally acclaimed musician Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson.

Additionally, there will be equipment demos and software clinics all held at The Studio; a state-of-the-art facility in downtown Philadelphia, which has been home for recording artists including the Roots, Erykah Badu, Common, Jill Scott, Musiq and many others.

Space is limited - to attend please send a music sample, link to myspace page or site, a brief to synopsis of why you make music, and a bio if available by March 11th. Feel free to forward to music enthusiasts who may find this program of interest to:

I have long been a fan of the style bible known as Le Book, in my past life as a music manager, I called on Le book whenever I was in need of a hot photographer, stylist, agency or hair dresser.. and on occasion just for inspiration.

Now that I am only a low life publisher, the damn thing comes addressed to Catzie and not me.. which I have to admit "I feel some kind of way about".. regardless It's still here in all its glory.. Dope as shit! and in the best packaging I have scene from them thus far..

It is a crime drama/coming of age tale of three fictitious characters growing up in a crime ridden mythical city in a jungle. This project explores the icon of the gangster in modern media, and weaves musical history and gangster film history into an operatic music based story of brotherhood and survival. An homage to 90’s New York hip-hop, “City of God’s Son” is the redefinition of the remix. Featuring legendary soul singer Joe Bataan. A sound film/hip hop opera by Kenzo Digital.

Q-Tip sounds 18 again. Judging from early releases off his second official solo album, The Renaissance, the Queens MC sounds rejuvenated. [Editor's Note: 2002's Kamaal The Abstract was never released]

Having lead A Tribe Called Quest to five critically-acclaimed gold records in the 90s, Tip was expected to carry the group’s momentum into his solo career. Yet, his solo debut, 1999’s Amplified, though commercially successful, was heavily heckled by the underground gallery. Sure, the album was mostly co-produced by subterranean champion J Dilla, but Hype Williams’ cliche big booty treatment on videos for “Vivrant Thing” and “Breathe and Stop” were just too much for some Tribe loyalists to bear.

Tip spent the following years observing the industry’s tumultuous climate changes while attentively crafting his follow-up album. Finally, nine calendars after his last official release, the Abstract is back sounding quite vintage.
